Relaunching GetOpenID.com using a server-side Drupal module
OpenID is blowing up!
This morning, the OpenID Foundation announced that Google, IBM, Microsoft, VeriSign, and Yahoo! have joined as its first corporate board members. But don’t worry: OpenID.net was quick to note that the members are not decision-makers:
While the OpenID Foundation serves a stewardship role around the community’s intellectual property, the Foundation’s board itself does not make any decisions about the specifications the community is collaboratively building. (Emphasis theirs.)
Well, we have an announcement of our own: We’re completely overhauling our OpenID registrar GetOpenID.com and expect to re-launch the site sometime in April 2008 — and we’ll do it on Drupal!
OpenID support for Drupal 5.x and 6.x is currently limited to clients. We plan to build a module to enable server-side support, allowing any Drupal site to become an OpenID registrar. The module will be released to the Drupal community under the GPL.
Viva free software and open standards!

Awesome news. Please get in touch, because I have the roadmap for this for both drupal.org itself as well as several clients.
I’m with Boris, I’d love to hack on this a bit during DrupalCon…
Will you be in Boston?
Blake and Boris: Absolutely. David and I will both be there.
Make sure that the good folks at Drupal solve this rather nagging problem: http://secunia.com/advisories/28717/
We’ve been keeping an eye on OpenID at Microcost for some time and as avid Drupal users would love to see server side support added!
Interesting. Wonder if I can swing a trip to Boston for the sprint…
I’d like to also encourage you to participate with the rest of the community in this effort as there is a ton of work, planning, etc already underway on this stuff.
Exciting! Can’t wait to hear from you!
getopenid.com seems to be down - anything to do with this move?
